Safe driving at work (click on the Acts for more info)
We all know about safety in the workplace and the importance of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. We all avoid leaving things lying on the floor to avoid accidents; we wear protective clothing and headwear, where appropriate. We even go on courses to ensure safety in the workplace.
But, how many of us are aware that this Act also applies to driving at work? Are we aware of the Corporate Manslaughter Act of 2008 ? Any business that applies more than five people is obliged to comply with these legislations. Drivers should be assessed annually with regards to risk. Failure to do this and to keep records could make an employer, or transport manager, liable for their drivers mistakes, including prosecution under Corporate Manslaughter Act.
A Fleet Qualified driving instructor can complete assessments on your drivers, meaning that company will be complying with their responsibilities and could avoid prosecution, leaving the driver solely responsible for their actions. If you think your company is above prosecution then read this article from the Daily Mail on 15th April 2010. CLICK HERE to read the article.

So, it is very possible that your company could save well in excess of the cost of having your drivers assessed in fuel expenses alone. These same minor changes could also lead to a more relaxed driver and happier employee.
So as you can see company driver risk assessments can benefits as well as protection from prosecution.
